A baby’s first birthday is probably the most memorable birthday out of all of the birthdays for the parents of the baby.  This is the birthday where the baby won’t even remember it, but the parents will always remember.  Normally the parents invite their friends, family and co-workers to celebrate the baby’s first birthday.  You'll want to include the guest of honor in as many activities at the party as you can, just keep in mind how small the baby’s attention span is at this age. 

They may not be able to do many of the things you have planned.  Keep the time of the baby’s first birthday party short to accommodate the baby’s feelings and even let him or her take a nap during the party if needed. The baby may not be as enthused about the first birthday ideas you have planned as you are. Be sure to take lots of pictures and set up a camera to record all the fun. 

The birthday ideas we are sharing with you are geared more towards the adults and older children.  Even though the ideas shared are meant to be played by older siblings and the adults who are attending the party, the baby should be included in the fun. The baby will enjoy the fact that everyone is there enjoying themselves and sharing in their birthday celebration.  However the rest of the party, including the food choices and the birthday decorations should be aimed at the baby. 

Babies may have a hard time digesting the foods that adults would like to have.  It is a good idea to have a simple cake made separately so the baby can have a small cake all to themselves and then make a bigger cake to serve to your guests.  Nothing makes a baby feel more special on their first birthday than having a cake just for them.  Most likely there has been no other time in the baby’s life so far where they can have a cake all to themselves.
